Corey Jones of Toledo answers draft questions below.
Scott Porter: Who is Corey Jones?
Corey Jones: First off Corey Jones is a determined, hungry person that will do anything for success. I was raised by two hard working parents and I am someone who continues to live by those beliefs that strong work pays off. I am a hard-working player with a lot of talent.
Scott Porter: What do you feel are your greatest football strengths?
Corey Jones: My intelligence in the game. I am a student of the game. I love watching film to get better. I am a hard worker, and I have great speed and quickness. I can do a lot with the ball in my hands.
Scott Porter: What do you like the most about playing the wide receiver position?
Corey Jones: Being able to have the ball in different areas. Getting in space and making plays. I love hitting the home run on a big pass play that turns the momentum of the game around. I love the big play making ability that can come with the position. It is an exciting position to play.
Scott Porter: What do you think are the biggest challenges that come with playing the wide receiver position?
Corey Jones: Being a wide receiver you think you’re supposed to get the ball every time. You have to remind yourself there are other receivers on the field who may be open more then you are on a given play. You have to stay patient. Sometimes you may not put up great stats in a game but you are helping the other players around you get open and make the big play. It can be frustrating when you’re open and the ball isn’t thrown to you, but you learn through experience that, that is going to happen. You move onto the next play. It’s about the team not you as an individual.
Scott Porter: What are you looking forward to the most about your opportunity in the NFL?
Corey Jones: I am looking forward to perfect the things I have brought to the game such as my quickness and speed. I am looking forward to growing into a better player with more coaching and experience. I want to be more explosive and stronger and I think I can work with the NFL people I have around me to get the best of my abilities.
Scott Porter: What do you feel are your greatest football accomplishments?
Corey Jones: Right now, playing D1 football. Not a lot of people get that opportunity. I feel that is a great accomplishment to be able to say I played at this level. Also, not from a football stand point but being able to graduate as a student athlete is something I am very proud of. I am the first person in my family to graduate from college. That was a blessing. I hope to have many more accomplishments throughout my career.
Scott Porter: What was your overall experience like at Toledo?
Corey Jones: Football at Toledo is much different than a lot of other places. It is still a big program but it isn’t your top tier football conference so it is very family oriented. It keeps you playing with a chip in your shoulder and at the same time it is a very successful program. It is successful at winning and at getting guys to the next level. I learned a lot at Toledo. The coaching staff was very approachable. I felt like the coaching staff was a family to me. I got much better each year as a player under this staff.
Scott Porter: What are your goals for the NFL?
Corey Jones: I am trying to be the next big receiver out of the MAC. There have a been a lot of great receivers out of the MAC holding the name down. I am trying to be that next guy. I want to add a different style to the game and be someone that people will always remember in the game of football like Jerry Rice. I want people to remember me for what I did on the football field even after my time is done.
